Bhadrapur (Jhapa): Tea exports from the Mechi Customs Office to India have surged by 52 percent in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, according to official reports. A total of 4,412 metric tons of tea was exported during the months of Saun and Bhadau, significantly higher than the 2,902 metric tons exported during the same period last year.
The exported tea, valued at Rs. 1.13 billion, reflects growing demand in India, attributed to a decline in tea production in South India, as explained by Aditya Parajuli, President of the Nepal Tea Producers' Association. The export volume is expected to increase further due to continued high demand from India.
In the last fiscal year 2080/81, Nepal exported 13,433 metric tons of tea worth Rs. 3.16 billion to India, though this marked a 7.68 percent decrease compared to the previous year.
